Lancome Boutiques to Host Book Parties!

Lancôme is hosting an exclusive book party for The Dress Doctor – Prescriptions for Style, from A to Z, an adaptation of the best-selling style guide by Edith Head. Know who she is? Even if you don't recognize her name, you've surely recognized her STYLE. Head (1897 – 1981) is the most celebrated costume designer of all time and dressed some of Hollywood’s most influential style icons like Grace Kelly [MY IDOL], Audrey Hepburn, Ingrid Bergman, Elizabeth Taylor and countless others. Over the course of her career, she was nominated for 34 Academy Awards and won eight times for Best Costume Design, more than any other woman to date. The Dress Doctor shared style tips and dozens of entertaining anecdotes on her A-list clients and is back in print with striking sketches by fashion illustrator Bil Donovan.

Beginning this weekend, Lancôme is hosting in-store events in celebration of the book at their boutiques. Schedule an appointment with one of our makeup artists at the locations listed below to create your own modern-day Hollywood look inspired by the book. Show Your Ô Face!

Ôscillation, Lancôme’s vibrating mascara, launches nationwide tomorrow, Wednesday, October 22nd. The waiting list has topped the 21,000 mark! This is one of the most anticipated mascaras ever and for a good reason. The results are nothing short of phenomenal.

Some tips for achieving mile-long lashes direct from Lancôme:

--The key to great results with Ôscillation is a certain application technique. Apply in slow, straight and steady strokes.

--Don’t zig-zag and don’t wiggle!

--Don’t overpump the wand. There’s plenty of product on there for multiple coats.

--If at first you don’t succeed…don’t give up! Ôscillation takes a few tries to get the hang of it.

--Ôscillation is great for the lower lashes, so don’t forget to apply there.

Once you get your application method down, there are a few tricks you can try. Apply and then go back and re-apply to the tips alone. You can achieve impressive length. Or try this tip that a celebrity makeup artist shared: Put the wand right at the base of the lashes, activate the vibrating action and hold in place for a few seconds. Then slowly sweep to the tips of the lashes. It gives you beautiful thickness at the base and lots of oomph.

America Ferrera's Makeup at the Kids' Choice Awards

Celebrity makeup artist Vanessa Scali created the look for America Ferrera at the Kids' Choice Awards on Saturday night. I ADORE the color of her pinky-red dress. Here's the scoop, straight from Vanessa, on how to re-create America's glamorous look.

First, before applying any makeup, Vanessa prepped the skin with Lancôme Genifique, a youth activating concentrate that improves tone, texture and luminosity giving the skin a natural glow. To create a flawless complexion, Vanessa used both Lancôme Effacernes concealer and Armani Lasting Silk UV SPF 20 Foundation. She used Armani Fluid Sheer #2 as a highlighter and applied it with her finger to the cheekbone and brow bone. This gave the complexion a bit of added shimmer. Lancôme Color Design Cream Blush in Pret a Plum was applied to the apples of the cheeks for just a pop of color. Shu Uemura Cream Eye Shadow in Beige was lightly dusted on the eyelid and Lancôme Artliner in Noir was applied to the upper lash line. Several coats of Lancôme Ôscillation mascara were applied to the lashes for added length and volume. To compliment America's pinky/coral frock, Lancôme La Laque Fever gloss in Cyber Coral and Techno Brick were mixed together to create a high-shine pout.

Oscars 2009 Beauty: Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie looked stunning in a black strapless Elie Saab gown paired with emerald jewels that I actually can't live without. Celebrity makeup artist Mary Burton created Angelina’s gorge makeup look. Mary applied Le Crayon Khôl in Black Ebony to the upper and lower lash lines. She emphasized the shape of Angelina’s eyes by applying more liner to the outer corners of the eye. Several coats of Ôscillation Mascara were applied to the upper lashes for added volume and length. Mary put a touch of pink to the cheeks using Shu Uemura Blush in M Pink 31 and applied it to her cheekbones near the temple. To create ultra-shiny and luminous lips, Mary used Juicy Tubes in Spring Fling. Gorge!

Oscars 2009 Beauty: Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet looked beautiful in a multi-toned one shoulder YSL dress. Celebrity makeup artist Jillian Dempsey wanted to create a classic, natural look. First, she prepped Kate’s skin with Lancôme La Base Pro primer to create a smooth canvas for a polished complexion. She lightly brushed Lancôme Brow Expert in Naturel on the brows to play up their natural shape. Jillian Dempsey for Avon Pro Eyeshadow Trio in Ice Shimmer was applied to the eyes and the lashes were coated with Jillian Dempsey for Avon Pro Mascara in Black. To create a sheer, neutral colored lip, Lancôme Color Fever Lipstick in Old Flame was applied for a soft, matte finish. Her makeup looks PHENOM!

Fashion Week: BBJ Backstage at Chris Benz

Hair at Chris Benz was GORGEOUS... but highly complicated.

"Is this math?" I asked REDKEN lead stylist John Ruidant when he explained how he achieved the highly intricate, very complicated look he designed based on an uptown girl in the late '70s/early '80s headed downtown for a night on the town. I haven't been this confused since my mandatory Calc class I took my freshman year at BU.

And I KNOW from hair, girls. But even the most copious notes didn't allow for a good step-by-step how-to on this one. I'll put in a request to REDKEN for deets for that. Stay tuned. I do think it's lovely, however difficult it may be for a lay(wo)man to pull off at home. I can tell you that it incorporated REDKEN Hot Sets 22, REDKEN Fabricate, REDKEN Workforce Hairspray and a lot of backcombing.

The best part is that all the while, John is explaining this 'do (which just SOUNDS so hard to do), he's actually DOING the 'do, I'm assuming, under pretty high pressure. And he's ALWAYS cool as a cucumber. Every time I interview him. I'm not unconvinced that he's not actually at the tents. I think he's actually in Tahiti and is mentally projecting himself at New York Fashion Week in hologram form or something. Like Al from Quantum Leap. I've never seen anything like it.

Daniel Martin, Lancome makeup artist interpreted the "uptown girl gone downtown to a danceteria" vision using Lancome cosmetics. Complexions were intended to look blown out, as they do when photographed by a polaroid camera. To achieve this look, Daniel used powder and foundation two shades lighter than the models' own skin tone. Eyes were enhanced with three colors: Lancome Cream Liner in Indigo (smudged on with fingers), Lancome Eye Shadow in The New Black, and famed Lancome Color Fever Gloss in Piha Black for a "slept in" effect. Tons of Lancome Hypnose Mascara was used on both top and bottom lashes. Lips were a matte beige that mixed Lancome Cream Blush in Chic Cassis applied with fingertips with Lancome Le Rouge Absolu Lipstick in Beige Cashmere.

Deborah Lippman headed up the nail team on staff backstage at Chris Benz. Three colors were incorporated, reflecting the primary color focus of Chris' collection. The not-yet-named Lancome shades used are an electric blue with shimmer, a temperate red, and a soft gold metallic. "The red is not warm, but not cool," Deborah explained.

Get the Look: Kate Winslet at the SAG Awards

Kate looked gorgeous in a vibrant blue Narciso Rodriguez gown and dazzling Chopard jewels. Celebrity makeup artist Jillian Dempsey played up Kate’s eyes with lots of black eyeliner, mascara and shimmering shadow paired with a soft neutral palette on her lips and cheeks. Jillian used Lancôme Artliner in Noir on the upper lash line and then lightly dusted Jillian Dempsey Professional for Avon Eyeshadow Trio in Pebble Wash on the eyelid. She finished the eyes with a few coats of Lancôme Ôscillation Mascara in Black. For the lips, she used Serge Lutens nude lip liner and filled in the entire lip. Finally, she applied Color Fever Gloss in Engaging, a very sheer nude shade, for a high-shine pout.

Get the Look: Anne Hathaway at the SAG Awards

Anne Hathaway donned a beautiful white Grecian-inspired dress with gold detail at the neckline and waist. Celebrity makeup artist Kate Lee created a dramatic smoky eye by applying dark eyeliner to the upper lash line and blended it on the eyelid. To make Anne’s eyes pop, she applied several coats of Lancôme Ôscillation Mascara in Black for a faux-lash effect. Kate opted for a soft, stained pout. She applied Lancôme Le Lipstique lip liner in Sheer Natural to the entire lip, then coated the lips with Lancôme Color Fever Gloss in Seductive for a glossy finish.

Pink Irreverence: Lancôme's Spring 2009 Color Collection by Aaron De Mey

Audacious and emotional, free spirited and pioneering, radioactively gorgeous and sexy, Pink Irreverence, the latest color collection from Aaron De Mey, Lancôme’s new artistic director for makeup, takes inspiration from irreverent French heroines Madame Bovary, Sylvie Fleurie, Marie Curie and Brigitte Bardot. Just like the colors in the collection, these women have marked their eras with panache and embody the essence of pure and daring femininity.

Twisting the traditional codes of elegance, Aaron has created an impertinent color statement that pairs Spring pinks against rebellious blacks and potent shine against pure matte textures. The pinks are reminiscent of Lancôme’s iconic rose, while the deep black shades are evocative of the Piha volcanic black beaches of Aaron’s native homeland of New Zealand. Products are meant to be layered to create an array of stunning looks.

La Laque Fever Full Color Lipshine

Passionate about painting, Aaron De Mey wanted to recreate the purity of lacquer color in a lip product. Densely pixilated pearls combine with polymers to give multi-dimensional shine that lasts for six hours. The ultra-modern, silver streamlined packaging conveys all the color and shine contained within. Available in four daring, non-fading shades: Electric Pink, Optical Rose, Lucent Nude and Iridescent. $26

Color Design Eyeshadow Quad

Two new eye shadow palettes express the color statement and the free, irreverent spirit of Aaron’s spring collection. Use the black sparkling shade in the Irreverent Madame palette to structure the eye. Layer and play with the remaining matte pink shades to bring the look up or down. $42

Laque Liner

This eyeliner’s precise brush makes lining and defining easy and fun. The Pure Black shade is perfect for creating a deep intense look, while Pure Sparkle’s clear, shimmery formula instantly enlightens eyes. $25

Color Design Illuminator for Eyes and Face

This creamy, cooling gel can be used alone or blended over another color to highlight and brighten the eye area. Apply the light texture over your eyelid and up to the brow bone or experiment by bringing it from the eye down to the cheekbone to create a beautiful aura that lights up the face. Available in two shades: High Expectations and Hard to Get. $20

Color Fever Gloss in Piha Black

Back by popular demand, Piha Black adds an irreverent twist to the spring collection with its deep black and sparkly, volcanic beach inspired color. Used as a topcoat, the gloss brings a subtle dark intensity and brightness to other lip shades. Use alone for an edgier look. $25

Le Vernis Nail Polish

Take your nails to the extreme. For a dark sultry look, accessorize your nails with Piha Black, the same gorgeous, sparkly black shade found in the Color Fever Gloss. Lighten things up with Sassiness, a pink shade that, according to Aaron, “is the ultimate color of spring.” $18
