Twilight's Ashley Green Channels Audrey Hepburn

For a recent photo shoot, POP Beauty Makeup Artist Victoria Rowe created a lighter take on Ashley Green’s mysterious character (Twilight's fashion forward vamp, Alice), drawing inspiration from Audrey Hepburn. Armed with POP Beauty products, a vintage dress and a gorgeous day, Victoria crafted a look resminiscent of the original gamine herself.

Victoria used Rose Belle Blush ($28), the sheer pink glow of Glow Belle, Cat Eyes in Onyx ($16) and In-Liner in Black for authentic Audrey eyes, the light nude and lighter shades from Little Black Dress, the taupe brown shades from Little Brown Dress, Magnet Eye Primer ($18), and a combination from Kiss Mix in Berry.

Ashley is gorge to begin with, but I have to admit, she channels one Ms. Audrey Hepburn quite well. What say you? Tell me in the comments!

Catherine Hardwicke Won't Be Directing New Moon

More Twilight news via Daneen! Catherine Hardwicke (pictured, left) WON'T be directing New Moon, the movie based on the eponymous second book in the Twilight series. Thank GAWD. While I liked the movie (I may or may not have seen it four times - the first week), it was all thanks to my love for the book and for Robert Pattinson (obv.) I loathed the Spice Girl clothes (as my gal Tamar called them), the casting of Rosalie and Jaspar, there was far too much angstiness, and overall flow of the movie lacked something. I think Tim Burton could do AMAZING things with this movie. If I had his number, I'd call him on the phone and ASK him to direct it.

Click here to read more about it.

Hilar.

Not likely!

P.S. I recently read that the steamy Henry Cavill of The Tutors fame was the Edward Stephenie Meyer envisioned to play Edward. He's the ONLY person I can imagine in the role other than Rob P.

My New Fave Holiday Lip

Hi, girls! (And boys, because at my reunion last night, SEVERAL dudes in my graduating class 'fessed up to reading BBJ. LOVE it!)

How was your Thanksgiving? Mine was PHENOM. I ate far too much turkey. I received the best gift from my BFF AE Lee, an ENORMOUS Twilight poster (featuring JUST Edward) that my roommate and I have taped up in our kitchen. Yes, I know we're both 28. But that's just where it had to live.

Also, at my ten-year reunion last night, my friend Dana B asked about hair product recommendations. I nearly screamed that she MUST familiarize herself with MoroccanOil. Stay tuned for SO many more details about it. I'm obviously dedicating an entire post to this miracle hair elixer. The copywriting claims it produces "striking shine," and that it does. It's my new holy grail product.

In other hair news, Trish, my high school friend who opened her own FAB salon in Ambler , PA is apparently doing everyone's hair from the class of 1998. Seriously. Every time I complimented someone's highlights, the response was that "Trish did it!" If you live in the Philly area, I HIGHLY recommend you check it out. You can also buy MoroccanOil there. Run, don't walk. Here are the deets on the salon:
Barberella Hair (do you LOVE the name as much as I do?)
215-643-40663
3 Forest Avenue
Ambler, PA 19002

Oh, and also? I am just SO hungover from the reunion. Still. The bar was serving BIG GULP-sized vodka sodas, mmkay? And apparently, I needed like, seven, to party like it was 1998. Also necessary when reuning? Using people's first and last names EVERY time you address them. Also, facebook has rendered reunions totes anti-climactic. Nearly every convo I had went like this:

"Mazel tov on your wedding/new child/job, [FIRST NAME LAST NAME]! I saw it on facebook. I promise I'm not creepy. Saw it in my newsfeed."

Using full names is vital in a reuning situ. But most vital of all was my secret weapon - my lip stain/gloss combo I've named The Holiday Lip. Here's what you need to achieve it.

Stila Pomegranate Crush Lip & Cheek Stain
($50 for the Step Out and Shine Set)

Okay. This TO DIE stain isn't out until February. BUT, you can get a sneak preview, if you will, if you purchase Stila's fantastic Step Out and Shine set (more on that later in my holiday gift guide... stay tuned.) The set includes, among other things, a mini version of the stain which yields a deep, popsicle red stain that lasts forev. And tastes like a cocktail. Yum, yum, yum.

DuWop Venom Rocks Mini Gloss in Garnet ($21)
Garnet (pictured, last gloss on the right) is a sheer, deep berry with gold flecks and is one of three mini glosses that comes in the limited edition set. The two other colors are Amethyst and Pink Quartz. It plumps your pout to pillowish proportions with a bit of a sting, but after my second vodka soda, I felt nothing. It was phenom. This set would also make a fantastic stocking stuffer for any beauty junkie.

Team Cullen Update

Two things:
1) Check out this PHENOM site where you can buy all manner of Team Cullen paraphernalia! Thanks to Jammahs for sending me the link!

2) Check Nikki Reed as Rosalie:

Is it not the equivalent of dressing Jennifer Lopez as an albino? WTF.

I promise things will return to normal on this site fairly soon. And yes, I realize that this isn't twilightfans.com/cra.

Stay tuned for my International Emmys red carpet coverage from last night! Highlights included Judith Light, Kelly Rutherford, and Willie Garson (who played Stanford Blatch in SATC.)

Lipstick of a Vampire

Mystery solved: commenter Yinyan so graciously pointed out (per the Sephora Blog) that Robert Pattinson (and the rest of the Cullens) are wearing Benefit Full Finish Lipstick in Ms. Behavin ($18), a deep, plummy purple. The Sephora blog has full details, including what shade was used on Kristen Stewart.

Twilight Thoughts

Hey girls!

I saw Twilight on Friday and am semi-embarrassed to report I'm going to go see it a second time tonight in a couple of hours with Jamie. If you haven't seen the movie yet and don't want to be privy to any spoilers, (that means you, Julia!) here's where you should stop reading.

It was FANTASTIC overall. Seriously. Robert Pattinson fans will literally swoon for a full two hours. His accent is sort of unidentifiably hot - he covers up his British lilt well and comes up with one that's unique, but passes for one from another era. And his VOICE. It surpasses that of Kiefer Sutherland, who previously, I would have commandeered him to read me the phone book. It's to die. I die. Everyone dies. Even he dies and then returns as a vampire for all eternity because it's truly the love child of cashmere and velvet.

I'm also on a mission to find out what lip stain was used on his lips. It's kind of phenom. Some of my friends have remarked that they thought the washed out complexions were a bit much, but that didn't bother me. Yes, they were pale - remarkably so. But I have to say, it's a hue that I've achieved NATURALLY when I've been seriously hungover. I left the movie thinking, know what? These are my PEOPLE. I'm taking a mini-vaca from bronzer. It's okay to embrace my ridic levels of pale for five minutes.

Here's what I didn't love: the casting of Jasper and Rosalie.

Jasper: I think he mistakenly thought he was playing the part of Edward Scissorhands. Seriously, dude was so awkward and looked like he was rocking a back brace, in the words of my friend Jenn. I couldn't stop laughing every time he made an appearance. I'm pretty sure that wasn't intentionally hilar.

Rosalie was played by the very gorgeous star of Thirteen (another Catherine Hardwicke movie), Nikki Reed. Nikki is a dusky beauty with whom I'm very impressed because she hasn't succumbed to the stick-thin, ubiquitous Hollywood body type. But she sure as heckfire isn't the willowy blonde Stephenie Meyer described in her books. I give that one a feh, dolls. It's pretty obv that Catherine simply cast her in the role because they're friends - and because Nikki wrote the script for Thirteen.

Other than that, the cast worked for me. Peter Facinelli was impressive in the role of Carlisle Cullen, despite the fact that every time he appeared onscreen, all I wanted to do was be all, "AmanDUH" (as he said in the opus of cinematic genius, Can't Hardly Wait.)

Setwise, Bella's room seemed off and a bit small to me. The "dazzling in the meadow" scene actually took place in a forest. For me, it didn't quite work. I needed a bit more light, more reflection of the light off of Edward's MARBLE bod, and more open space, as it was described in the book. But the way they made his skin look like diamonds was impressive.

Did you see the movie this weekend? What did you think? Tell me in the comments!

Enjoy Twilight Tonight!

Carol Enters the Twilight Zone. Without Me.

OMG, gals. Have I got a story for YOU.

So you know I am deeply, deeply into Twilight's Robert Pattinson, who plays Edward in the movie. Yesterday, he made an appearance at Hot Topic at the King of Prussia (KOP) mall, a mere 15 minutes from where I grew up in suburban Philly. I ADORED growing up there... but I was so ready to leave when I did in 1998 to move first to Boston to attend college and then to New York in 2002 after I graduated. I love to go home to surburban Philly for weekends, holidays, etc. But never ONCE in ten years have I thought to myself, self? I'd LOVE to be 215-ing it up right now whilst flitting about at fabu NYC event. Yesterday, circa 5pm, that was the exactly what happened.

Daneen and I had spent ALL day emailing back and forth about Robert Pattinson's impending KOP arrival. I was telling her she HAD to get there. She wanted to, but couldn't leave work AND drive the 30 minutes from Center City to the 'burbs by the ripe hour of 5. It was truly tragic. TRAGE. Anyway, so I try to get on with my lifestyle. I head to a fab event where I met Redken stylist/creative consultant Guido (who is HILAR - seriously, he is in my top five fave stylists group). Stay tuned for my interview with him, BTW.

While I'm there, my mother calls me like, four times. She does this, my mother. I think it's a Jewish mother requisite. She simply calls until she gets me on the phone. Does this happen to anyone else? PLEASE tell me in the comments if it does so I can feel less ridic. I get home around 9pm, and when I finally have a chance to call her back, I'm sort of frantic because, like every other time, I think maybe something's HAPPENED this time and I'm some sort of jerk for ignoring four calls in a row because maybe someone's in the hospital, etc. P.S. Never has there been an emergency. She's always just called four times in a row to ask me something like whether I would like her to renew my New Yorker subscription this year.

This is the world's longest story. So anyway, when I reach her, she tells me how she had this coupon for a shoe store that's only in the King of Prussia mall. "The Plaza," she said. "Not the Court. You wouldn't BELIEVE the crowds." All of a sudden, I realize that my MOTHER unwittingly just HAPPENED to be the EXACT place I'd been DYING to be all day. Behold the dialogue:
Mom: It was pandemonium! There were so many girls crowding up the place for some guy who's going to be in some teen movie-
Me: MOM. YOU WERE IN THE MALL WITH EDWARD???
Mom: Oh, you know who he is? I had to ask another shopper-
Me: DID YOU SEE HIM?
Mom: No, I escaped to an Israeli kiosk, where I bought the most wonderful flatiron and hairspray.

In the words of Rachel Zoe, I die. Is that not BANANAS?

Dazzle Like Edward in the Meadow with These Products

Dolls, if you're not into Twilight, I'm just SORRY this week because it's ALL I can talk about. As you probably know, when I'm into something, I'm INTO something. I read all about it. I buy all the paraphernalia. I bring it up out of the clear blue sky at dinner parties. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it's all-consuming. I haven't had such a case of the vapors over a fictional dude since watching Michael Vartan play Michael Vaugn in Alias last January. And before that, it was LOST, but mostly LOST's Dr. Jack Shepard (played by Matthew Fox). I truly have a thing for male figments of JJ Abrams' imagination. Well, let's be serious, I'm STILL 100% consumed with LOST, but this week (and probably next week, leading up to the November 21st premiere, to which I've already purchased tickets on Fandango) it's all Twilight all the time. Let's learn how to achieve a dazzling glow a la Edward in the meadow, shall we? Two products come to mind.

I love the pearlescent quality of this highlighter when combined with a drop of foundation. It's also phenom when used on the bridge of the nose and on the brow bone. Its anti-oxidant rich pomegranate extract protects skin as an added bonus. Be gleamy!

Like Napoleon Perdis, creator of NP Set, ModelCO's founder Shelley Barrett also hails from Australia. Use this Shimmer Stick and be the mayor of Luminah City. Get it? I lurve it for decorating eyes, lips and décolletage with a shimmery peachy pink. It provides a sexy flush of color for a healthy, rosy complexion that compliments any skin tone. Best of all? ModelCo Luminosity Shimmer Stick is an oil-free formulation that doesn't clog pores. You'll adore it.

P.S. Just TRY to be productive today with this link to 93 pics I found of the movie here. As my gal Daneen says, can you not hang OFF of Robert Pattinson's cheekbones?

Twilight's Kristen Stewart on the Cover of Teen Vogue's December January Issue

Dolls, I have read both the first and second Twilight books THIS WEEK... I cannot WAIT for this movie. Pretty much the answer to EVERYTHING in my lifestyle is that "I'd rather be reading my vampire book."

Anywho, Kristen Stewart snagged the leading role in Twilight after a four-hour audition with indie director Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen, Lords of Dogtown).

Twilight is the hotly anticipated adaptation of author Stephanie Meyer’s smash-hit debut novel – all four titles in the now-complete series continue to be best sellers – but before Kristen got the script she had never even heard of the books. Says Kristen, "Though we were warned, I figured it would be a pretty exclusive fan base. I thought we were making a cult movie; I had no idea it was going to be this, like, phenomenon."

Despite having Kristen’s merits debated on Internet message boards before she had even shot a frame of film, she is almost improbably perfect to play the part of Bella Swan, a recently relocated high school junior who falls in love with a vampire named Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson. P.S.? Never in a world have I seen a better representation of a fictional character. He IS the Edward I envision in my head when I read the book. Says Kristen, "Bella inhabits qualities that most girls have, even if it’s not on the surface." Physically, Kristen works: she is capable of being both slightly plain (as Bella feels) and impossibly beautiful (as Edward sees her). "What I love about the story and what puts it on a different level is that it’s ‘chemical’…there’s nobody else for either of them. Period." The romance, which Kristen describes as "unworldly but not fake," was a big draw.

Kristen’s take on fashion: "If I’m just chilling out, then people can see me any which way, but it’s different when you’re putting yourself together to do something professionally," she says. "You’re under a lot of scrutiny," she admits. "It’s a bizarre thing, to me, to consider that what I wear or what I do with my hair, can affect my career." But Kristen respects the process and takes it in stride. "I’m not the type of person who has a million things in my closet to put together, so I’ve begun to work with a stylist and we’ve started to figure out what I like. Simple, classically pretty things; I love Chanel." Me, too, doll.

You can catch Kristen as Bella Swan in Twilight, on November 21, 2008. You can also see Kristen in the upcoming coming-of-age comedy Adventureland with Ryan Reynolds in 2009. The Dec/Jan 2008 issue of TEEN VOGUE is on sale nationwide November 18, 2008.

P.S. Dead sexy Robert Pattinson fauxposed to Kristen whilst working on set. Robert? I wouldn't be opposed to a fauxposal. Just saying.

Q & A with Twilight's Head Makeup Artist, Jeanne Van Phue!

MAC Cosmetics provided yours truly with this phenom Q&A with Jeanne Van Phue, Head Makeup Artist for Twilight, the movie based on the eponymous book, which is scheduled to open on Friday, November 21st. I already have plans to see the movie on that date and am about halfway through the book. It's very "in keeping" with my vampire obsession.

Q: What was the process for creating the various characters’ looks?
A: Katherine Hardwicke, the director, and I have previously worked together on a movie called “Lords of Dogtown,” so we know each other very well. I began by preparing sketches of my vision, keeping in mind the descriptions Stephanie Myers (Twilight’s Author) set forth in the books.

Bella’s (Kristen Stewart’s character) description in the novel is very pale and extremely beautiful with large chocolate brown eyes, so she wore colored lenses every day. I also pictured her as a natural beauty, which is exactly what Kristen is. I used a light hand while applying all neutral colors to make her look as though she had no makeup on.

Edward’s (Robert Pattinson’s character) description in the novel is impossibly handsome almost god-like. His skin is marble-pale, hard as stone and ice cold, but perfect and flawless. Edwards’ eyes are described as topaz colored when he is normal and black like onyx, when hungry.

Q: Were there any changes to the looks of the characters that weren’t planned?
A: At the beginning, Katherine Hardwicke visualized Edward with long hair, yet after studying his face and jaw line in the makeup test, the decision was made to go with short hair to accentuate his amazing jaw line.

Q: What was the overall look of the makeup in this movie?
A: All the vampires had to be pale, but I didn't want them to look to ghoulish, somewhere between Sweeney Todd and Interview with the Vampire. The choice was made for a denser, more opaque look for the supporting vampires and a lighter look for the leading man.

The challenge was they still had to look beautiful and handsome. The key was striking the delicate shading balance. We had two weeks of makeup test. This is the time for a makeup artist to unleash their imagination. During the testing Katherine let me know when I was on the mark. Katherine has a fabulous eye for detail and everything I did had to be approved by her.

Q: Were there any other challenges you encountered while working on location in Portland, Oregon?
A: The rain was a huge challenge. We were outside, and it rained the entire time we were there. Most of the shots were exterior; trying to fix makeup in the rain with wet faces and wet brushes was difficult. In the end, I must say I loved working on this movie, it challenged my creativity as never before. The cast was such a great group of talented young actors.

Q: What were your non-makeup related responsibilities in terms of creating this look?

A: Another one of my jobs was too find a contact lens specialist. So I called upon the expertise of Cristina Patterson Ceret FX lens/painter from Professional VisionCare.

Q: What M·A·C products did you use on the film Twilight?
A: The M.A.C products I used on this film were eye shadows and powder for our principles. We had several other characters and day players for whom I used M.A.C. foundations, lipsticks and blushes.

Q: How long have you used M·A·C products?

A: In 30 years as a makeup artist in my career and over 50 movies, M·A·C products have played an integral part in my work. I have probably used all of them at one time or another. I choose the cosmetics based on their skin tone and whether they are oily or dry. It also depends on how the product reacts to their particular skin type.

An RPatz/Edward Cullen ACTION FIGURE?

This has nothing to do with beauty, beauties, but I HAD to pass along this little gem of an action figure sold at Hot Topic for $17. He IS wearing my fave grey jacket from the movie, but it says that he comes with "full articulation." What in the hell does that mean? Obv, he doesn't talk. His mouth is PAINTED ON. And I love his Cullen family crest he comes with. Thanks to Tamron for the heads up!

What do you think?

Eau de Edward?

Gals, I just learned via a Twilight fansite (don't judge, you know it's that kind of party when it comes to Twi) that Hot Topic is selling a Twilight PERFUME ($48). According to the description, it smells like lavender and freesia. I heart its adorable apple-shaped bottle. Very Dior Hypnotic Poison, no? The latter is one of my ALL TIME FAVE scents ever. In fact, I spent all of my college years smelling of it.

I wonder if Twlight the perfume will smell sparkly? What are your thoughts?
