I knew this would happen. I'd put time, care, and energy into compiling several gift guides (there are still a few to come, BT dubs)... only to find out about something vital to share with you all after the fact. Such is the case with this GORGE shadow palette. I found out about it after compiling my Stocking Stuffer Guide. Consider this post an addendum to that one, mmkay?

Let's have a little chat Heidi Klum-style about this palette. It contains six deeply-pigmented shades ranging from blacks to deep blues for the eyes. ALL of the colors are holiday party smoky eye rockable, but I am most deeply smitten kitten with that sparkly navy blue. That blue is a shimmery version of the hue used to make those duffle bags with investment banks' monikers printed on the shoulder straps that cute finance dudes carry on the subway. I'm not sure which blue (that of the shadow or of the duffle) I'm more thrilled to see. One is the harbinger of a super sultry smokey stare while the other foreshadows flirtation.

I just can't choose.

'90s Ladies Week: A Shadow That's Meant to be Paired with The Business Woman's Special

'90s Ladies Week continues, dolls!

Today's theme is a '90s movie. I chose my favorite '90s movie of all time, Romy and Michele's High School Reunion. The film is especially significant for me this month, as in just a little over a week, I will be attending my own ten-year reunion. To say I'm mildly obsessed with my ten-year reunion is a colossal understatement. I've assigned everyone cooresponding roles (in my head, of course). There will be a Sandy Frink. There will be a Romy and a Michele. There will be a Lisa Luder. That's the role I'm gunning for. After all, "what's the point of going if [you're] not going to impress people?"

The inspired product: Make Up For Ever Eyeshadow in Purple 92 ($18 - swatch pictured, left)

Is it not a "fun, frisky use of color," as Lisa Luder said about Romy and Michele's homemade outfits? This swatch doesn't EVEN do it justice. It's a matte, brilliant purple - a Crayola 8-Pack purple, if you will. Use it as a liner, and you'll be at the mercy of NO ONE, let alone of "the A-group." Defy "the genetic betrayal that is your legacy" with this shadow's high pigment density. A tiny smidge of it on an angled liner brush yields phenom color pay-off. It has a satiny feel and lasts all damn day. Rock it and catch the eye of one Mr. Billy Christiansen. Or that of your personal Billy Christiansen from your high school days.

Maybe it'll even inspire you to confront that "bad person with an ugly heart" at YOUR reune.

Or not. Maybe you don't "give a flying f*ck what [they] think".

Grey's My Favorite Color... I Felt So Symbolic Yesterday

Adam Duritz and I both adore grey.

The newest addition to my whore drawer at work are grey eye makeup items that produce a non-strumpety smoky eye in a flash for post-work drinks. A round-up of my fave products of late:

CARGO Plantlove Eye Shadow in Finch ($20) is a mauve taupe shimmer that looks grey on lids. It's made with only natural and organic ingredients and is free of parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals, and synthetic dyes and fragrances. Its high pigmentation yields incred stay-true color.

Stila Smudge Pot in Gray ($18) goes on smoothly and will take you from day to night in a flash. I like to use a shadow brush and blend it all the way to the crease for (Johnny) drama.

DuWop EyeCatcher Pencil ($18.50) in black is TECHNICALLY a black pencil, but it's sort of a flat, lighter black. I apply a line close to the lashes (obv) with a light hand and it looks more deep grey than noir. I like that the chubby pencil is easy to handle.
