$75 Cut or Color and $40 Blow-outs at Ted Gibson on Tuesdays

Ted Gibson has instituted Recessionista Tuesdays at his Fifth Avenue salon—kicking off March 10.

Every Tuesday, anyone can come into the salon and the Ted Gibson team will offer haircuts or single color processing or partial highlights for $75 and blow-outs for $40. Can't beat that with a stick!

To kick off the event, Ted is offering up a FREE HAIR MAKEOVER WORTH $950 to the winner of the raffle. Register by dropping off a business card or filling out a registration form between 10:00AM and12:00PM at the salon that morning, March 10.

Ted Gibson Salon: If You Build It, They Will Come.

Daneen and I were invited for blow-outs on Saturday at the Ted Gibson Salon, one of my favorite beauty sanctuaries. Stylist Devin was assigned to me, and am I ever glad he was. He gets my need for volume in major way.

He sprayed on copious amounts of Ted Gibson's Build It ($28), a volumizing spray made with a Merlot complex. He noticed that it "took to [my] hair well." Well, obviously. My hair knows it had best be amplified to its greatest capabilities. I will stand for nothing less. The blow-out was fantastic and is still going strong, thanks to my Klorane hair powder. I highly recommend Devin if you're in the market for a new stylist in NYC.

Fashion Week: BBJ Backstage at Lela Rose

Just as Brodie of Mallrats fame "love[s] the smell of commerce in the morning," I love the smell of Fashion Week in the morning. It's the only thing that gets me out of bed before 8am on a Sunday. I headed to the tents at the ripe hour of 8:45 to interview the hair and makeup artists behind Lela Rose's phenom look.

My first stop was Tina Turnbow for Beauty.com/Stila Cosmetics. The inspiration was quite unexpected: The shell of a beetle mixed in with a rain forest motif. Tina used a graduation of color of dark into light to achieve the look. Greens with undertones of yellow and honey abounded. Tina elongated the eye to look much like that of an insect itself.

Remember studying insects in Science class? Along with learning about their exoskeletons and thoraxes, I always remember learning about their disproportionate ENORMOUS eyes and how they're actually compound eyes. They consist of tiny, lens-capped optical units known as ommatidia. But I digress.

Tina worked Stila Sheer Color tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 into the models' complexions along with Stila Perfecting Concealer and Pressed Powder dusted on. Eyeshadows used were the Stila Princess Pearl Palette's gold and green shades. Constellation and Venus shadows were also swept on as finishing touches over brows and cheekbones. Venus is a beigey shimmer which actually manages to look wet, like dew on leaves. "Very rainforest," Tina joked. Stila Kajal Eye Liner in Emerald was used for definition, along with Stila Smudge Pot in Jade, a shimmering green touched onto the lashes. Lashes were natural, simply swept with mascara. Lips were glossed with Stila Praline Glaze, a neutral honeyed nude. To work this look into real life, Tina recommends imparting shine on one area of the face, as opposed to lips, eyes and cheeks.

The magical Ted Gibson headed up the hair team. I LOVE this look. It's one of my faves I've seen thus far. Ted wanted to "create a really beautiful texture." Ted loves beetles and wanted to channel what a beetle would look like in human form. He created a youthful ponytail with volume at the crown with a center part. Ted KNOWS from volume, let me tell you. He then twisted the ponytail and set it with a blow dryer (see pic below). Ted used Ted Gibson products (for volume) and Build It and Tame It Shine Lotion for smoothness.

Nails were painted with a fairy-esque light green polish from Butter LONDON. Very sprightly for Fall!

Stila Introduces Limited Edition Backstage with Lela Rose and Beauty.com Makeup Collection

I love this collab between Stila and Lela! Haven't you always wanted to have your own runway ready makeup available TO YOU in your own boudoir? Now you can. The Stila Backstage with Lela Rose and Beauty.com collection contains four key products used by every artist backstage at the Spring 2009 show.

Stila Sun Shade 01 was used to bronze the models’ cheekbones. This bronzer is known for its buildable color, which makes it a makeup artist favorite season after season. Cranberry Lip Glaze glossed up the models’ pouts.

For the eyes, Starlight Eye Shadow let the lids shimmer with a champagne glow, and a coating of Major Lash Mascara in Brown helped to create a balanced, feminine face.

This wearable modern look is sophisticated in its simplicity, a must in order to complement the vibrant kaleidoscope of colors with a funky tribal twist fashions that paraded down the Lela Rose runway.
