Clinique's Happy Weekend

Friday, December 12 marks the beginning of Clinique’s Happy Weekend. To kick it off and in an effort to “pay it forward” and bring happiness and good will to consumers, Clinique will be brandishing shoppers with Random Acts of Happiness at the Happy Weekend Hospitality Tent in key cities across the country (New York, Chicago and Miami).

At the Happy Weekend Hospitality Tents, Clinique Happy Santa and Elves will present passersby with free hot chocolate, cookies, Happy candy canes and complimentary gift wrapping (regardless of where the gifts were purchased).
  • Clinique counters nationwide will be gifting free iPods to lucky consumers chosen from those who enter to win, regardless of whether they have purchased a Clinique product.
  • Happy Elves will be on the watch for anyone in need of help.

Clinique partnered with mentoring charity Big Brothers Big Sisters to provide the mothers of children participating in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program with makeovers at Clinique counters. The New York tent activity will be going on Friday, December 12 from 11:00am – 2:00pm at The GM Plaza; 5th Avenue between 58th and 59th Streets, New York.

Steal vs. Splurge: Maybelline and CARGO

Maybelline Expert Wear Quad Eye Shadow ($6) will enable even a shadow novice to smoke up her peepers with utter ease as the directions are etched onto each shadow. At $6, can you afford not to add this to your collection? A major barg, compared to the $32 you could be spending on CARGO's iteration below.

Speaking of Maybelline, the brand recently honored ten women who empower others through education AND provided each with a $10,000 grant to support their work.
Tamar, Anne and I attended the dinner thrown by Maybelline last week held at the New York Public Library. As someone who frequently gets in trouble for talking, I wildly appreciated being able to talk (and eat!) in a library. We were seated at the same table as the darling Jessica Fenster-Sparber, a teacher working with incarcerated youth. Jessica co-founded Literacy for Incarcerated Teens (LIT). The non-profit organization creates school libraries inside juvenile detention centers and schools serving group homes.

Maybelline's Beauty of Education program also honored these very worthy organizations:
Sisters Working It Out
Thanks to Maybelline for a fantastic evening, and congrats to all the honorees!

8 Going on 28

Guys. This month it's like I'm living my own 8 Going on 28 mini series. I mean, I can't believe my lifestyle. Within three weeks I attended an NKOTB (stay tuned for my concert review after I see them again on October 27!) concert and then a surprise performance by the TIFFANY at the 30th anniversary party tonight for Aussie! Will next week bring an engraved invitation to sit at my 4th grade class's "popular" table? Who can guess? Not me, dolls.

The title of my yet-to-be-written memoir will be Everything You Ever Wanted in Your Lifestyle WILL Happen, but WAY After You Thought it Would. It's a toss-up between that and What Can I Wear That's Appropriate for my Conservative Finance Job AND for Attending the 30th Anniversary Party for Aussie Hair Products at Bungalow 8? The answer to the latter, BTW, is NOTHING. Not one thing. I settled on the dress you see pictured only to get mildly harassed for its toeing-the-line length (an inch or two above the knee) by my coworker, B.

So this party was it and then some. In addition to the private Tiffany concert (seriously, it was about 30-40 people - I DANCED like a maniac WHILE she sang Saw Him Standing There, along with the other concert patrons), we took a phenom trip down Aussie product memory lane and listened to stylist Sarah Potempa share tips. The nostalgia! In the 80s and 90s, I used to spend ALL of my allowance at the now defunct Drug Emporium on Sprunch Spray, 3 Minute Miracle and Hair Salad. Remember the delish grape scent of Sprunch Spray? I totally loved it. My locks were fraught with it, as was my bathroom counter and floor, much to my brother's chagrin. Aussie's new collection includes Catch the Wave Mousse + Leave In Conditioner ($4! It doesn't get more recession-friendly than that), the perfect pre-blowout amplifier for voloisturizing (achieving volume + moisturizing) your hair.

Tiffany sang I Think we're Alone Now, Could've Been, When I Saw Him Standing There (which I listened to on a LOOP in the 80s), and a bunch of fun new songs. It was DIVINE. I remember being so very jealous in 1988 when my best friend at the time, Rachel, got to attend the NKOTB concert and bragged that Tiffany (who opened for NKOTB) touched her hand for years. My inner eight-year old DIED of excitement when I got to meet her. We did the "hand dance" (see vintage Tiffany video below) and everything. It was pretty much everything I'd thought it be and more.

Pictured above are Carolyn, Marina, TIFFANY, me, and Jamie. Thanks to Carolyn for the pic and to Aussie for the super fab event! Here's to many more years of silky smoothness with the purple roo!

Darphin Launches New Age Defying Lip Balm

Darphin is launching their new Age Defying Lip Balm ($40) and it's being previewed at Bergdorf on Friday, January 23rd and Saturday, January 24th at the Darphin counter on the Beauty Level of Bergdorf Goodman.

Customers who scoop up the lip balm at the preview will be able to have it hand painted with floral designs and their name/initials by local artist Olivia Wolfe, compliments of Darphin. As someone who simply ADORES anything personalized, I LOVE this news. And? Since this is a lip balm your friends are guaranteed to try and swipe from you, the monogramming will keep those sticky-fingered friends at bay.

The Age Defying Lip Balm smells delish with its warm vanilla scent, and boasts an incred texture I'd compare to my all time favorite lip balm, La Mer's The Lip Balm. It's a great base for lipstick but also naturally matte on its own.

Jim, are you listening? Jim's on an eternal quest for the ultimate non-glossy balm. I think this one's it!
